Diam Meeting in Bordeaux

On 11th January 2013, Diam Bouchage gathered together over 80 of the region’s wine house owners for an exceptional meeting and debate.

Focusing on the topic “The Influencers of Tomorrow”, this Meeting was coordinated by Alain Marty (Chairman of the Wine & Business Club) and brought together a panel of seven experts from the world’s greatest wine-tasters who discussed new assessment models that will make the reputation of wines in the future.

From left to right : Bernard Burtschy (Le Figaro, L’Avis du Vin - France), Ian D’agata (Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, Decanter – USA/Italie), Peter Moser (Falstaff  - Autriche), Jamie Goode (wineanorak.com – UK), Ronald de Groot (Perswijn - Pays-Bas), Xiang Gao (Tastespirit.com – Chine) et Michel Bettane (Bettane & Desseauve, France).

It was a rare opportunity to discover the points of view of these key figures on this very current topic and its multiple issues:

Robert Parker, the renowned American critic, was at the hub of the discussions, particularly as he has stepped down as editor-in-chief of The Wine Advocate and handed over the reins to Asian investors. The question of “After Parker” has been raised but answers remain vague: it seems difficult to imagine a successor, but a successor there will be … and, given the emerging Chinese wine market, he or she may be Asian.

New media are, of course, high on the list of Influencers. Discussions picked up on the issue of the growing role of Internet in exchanges and knowledge about wine. Participants whose background lies in the Internet confirmed the importance of new media and their essential development. Other speakers mentioned that this excellent tool must continue to develop and optimize its performance when it comes to wine in order to remain pertinent.

Many other subjects were addressed during these high level discussions: progress and education of the consumer, the new status of experts in response to ultra-informed connoisseurs, and the relevance of rating scores were just a few of the hotly-discussed topics which gave a very detailed insight into the powers at play and changes to come in terms of requirements.

By creating these Meetings, Diam Bouchage has sought to offer its clients a unique opportunity to have access to rare information on strategic issues that is of major interest in helping them better understand their environment and market.
